NWO Masterclass VENI call 2024 – Trainer: Aya van den Kroonenberg

Obtaining a VENI-grant from NWO is an important milestone in the research career of (young) scientists in the Netherlands. The Talent Scheme is highly competitive with average success rates between 10% and  20% depending on year and science division.

In this training we distinguish between the quality of the research project and the quality of the written proposal. Both have to be excellent to be successful.
We will address the typical characteristics of a VENI application considering the different NWO domains and incorporating recent developments including signature of the DORA agreement by NWO and the latest development regarding the evidence-based CV of the pre-proposal. In addition, focus will be on evaluation criteria for the PI, for the research project and for scientific and societal impact including their interrelationship and in combination with the proposal template.This workshop is directed towards talented researchers who plan to submit VENI pre-proposal in September 2024 and possibly a full proposal in beginning 2025. Participants will receive strategic and practical input for developing a competitive VENI project and writing a convincing pre-proposal and full proposal thereby increasing their chances to receive this prestigious grant.
